The Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee has been sitting silently as assembly elections are not far and moreover, there is no sign of strengthening of the party by the PPCC President Capt Amarinder Singh.
As per the information, the party has been working not even up to the mark in the state and still there is factionalism prevailing in the party. Even Capt Amarinder Singh has been waiting for the official announcement of his candidature as CM candidate of the party in the assembly polls.
The political atmosphere in Punjab Congress is not heated up as party cadre is waiting for the official announcement of the Chief Ministerial candidate by the party high command.
However, the differences between the top leadership have not been sinking as still there are factions against Capt Amarinder Singh. The former PPCC President and incumbent Rajya Sabha MP Partap Singh Bajwa is not in the good terms with Amarinder. Even the other Rajya Sabha MP, Shamsher Singh Dullo has cornered himself from Amarinder because the PPCC president had given the name of Hans Raj Hans for the Rajya Sabha nomination but when Dullo approached the high command, the name of Sufi singer was dropped from the list in the eleventh hour.
The two senior leaders Jagmeet Brar and Bir Devinder Singh already facing expulsion from the party and definitely their absence would affect the party in the assembly polls.
There is no much time left for the assembly polls and the party has not pulled up its socks to give a tough fight to the rivals. Already the Punjab Congress has witnessed two consecutive defeats in the assembly polls. If the party would not be strengthened its cadre across the state then definitely it would taste the third consecutive defeat in the polls.
It is evident that the Congress leaders have not eliminated their differences and the rift between the top leadership would put the party on a political ventilator.
The factionalism and internal rifts of Congress party are not hidden from anyone and this is known to be one of the major reasons of Congress’ downfall on the political ground. This is not a new “trend” in Congress when one member would blame other for all the wrong doings. In this battle of blames and lies, Captain Amarinder Singh seems to be taking all the “benefits”. He does not look worried due to these rifts at all, but is constantly trying to turn these internal rifts beneficial for him.
We can do better analysis on the situation by taking the example of Gulchain Singh and Shakeel Ahmed. They were not the strongest contenders but were still given powerful positions. The reason was their “close links” with the royal Singh. Harish Chaudhary, another member when tried to make his point was treated badly in the party, as Captain Amarinder Singh never wants to transfer his powers to anyone else.
Also, as per sources, when Pratap Singh Bajwa was the president of Congress, Amarinder left no chance to take his position and wrote a letter to Mrs. Gandhi saying that bajwa is a “drug lord”. Not just that, when there was doubt of making Mr. Singh, the president of party, he threatened the high authorities to form a new party of his own, after which he was granted the “president” position.
If we look at the recent incident of welcoming Asha Kumari in Punjab, sources claim that this happened because of the Captain himself. He wanted to take charge of the party hence appointed Asha Kumari here.
From all above-mentioned incidents, it is clearly exposed that what Captain craves the most is power and charge. He would never allow someone else to take his position. But here we would want to remind Captain Amarinder Singh that “TEAM WORK” is a practice that is important to accomplish any project, so you better learn it.
15 August, Independence Day, is the day of celebration as we Indians got independence on this date in the year 1947. But as this date is coming closer, it is increasing the “nervousness” of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President, Captain Amarinder Singh. The reason is nothing but the own party member of congress Punjab, Jagmeet Singh Brar, who has been expelled from the party recently. His harsh tweets and frustration towards Congress party has become the reason of his suspension from the party. Jagmeet Singh Brar did not stop commenting harsh and negative things about the party even after series of warnings, so high authorities finally decided to expel him. He showed his anger by taking the support of social media like twitter and stated the reasons of annoyance.
In a recent interview, he said that he has the entire details of Captain Amarinder Singh’s Swiss bank accounts. He claimed that former Cm has more than 860 Crore rupees in the foreign accounts on the name of his son Raninder Singh and wife Preneet Kaur. He added that Captain looted the hard-earned money of Punjabis and transferred the same to countries like Dubai, Switzerland and Pakistan. He has also saved the money under the name of some foreign trust. Sending money to country like Pakistan is purely Anti-National, Brar said.
With these statements, Jagmeet said that he is all set to reveal all the secret information of Captain Amarinder Singh and his family’s Swiss bank accounts. He added that he would do the same on 15 August 5, 2016. So, we all should get ready to celebrate the Independence Day, this is going to be special you know…!!!
Everyone in Punjab knows about the growing “internal rifts” of the Congress party. Former deputy speaker Bir Devinder Singh and former MP, Jagmeet Singh Brar has been expelled out of the party for not following the party rules, doing anti-party activities, and indiscipline.
Jagmeet Singh Brar & his frustration for Amarinder
Even after getting expelled from the party, Jagmeet Singh Brar continued to speak against former CM, Captain Amarinder Singh and his family. He expressed his frustration towards Amarinder Singh through media and tweets. He was asked to stop these anti-party activities several times and both Prahsant Kishore and AICC general secretary in-charge of Punjab, Shakeel Ahmad, discussed the issue with him. However, getting no positive response from Brar, Congress party decided to expel him from the party “with an immediate effect.”
In a recent interview, Brar claimed to have all the data regarding Amarinder and his family’s Swiss bank accounts. He stated that Amarinder and family have about 860 Crore saved in Swiss bank accounts on the name of Jacaranda trust. He was sure about his claims, and the revelations of ED. He told the media that he would reveal all these details in brief on August 15, 2016. He said that the party has forgiven Amarinder Singh numerous times for his “sins” but this is high time that he has to stand up for his party. He also expressed his discontent on the matter of Khadoor Sahib bypoll, and Talwandi Sabo bypoll.
Bir Devinder Singh: Not happy with Aroosa & Amarinder’s affair
On the other hand, Bir Devinder lashed out at Amarinder Singh for his alleged affair with Aroosa Alam. He warned Amarinder Singh that if he does not leave Aroosa now, he would have to face the same kind of defeat again in the year 2017.
Hide and Seek of Clashes
Apart from this, main members of the party i.e. Charanjit Singh Channi, Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, Prashant Kishore and Captain Amarinder Singh, they all share “not so good” bond with each other. No matter how much they try to hide their “internal conflicts”, Punjabis very well know about the absence of unity and teamwork of Congress party.
There is no stop to Congress troubles in Punjab. Every day new stories appear against the party and Congress men.The Congress MLA from Chamkaur Sahib Constituency, Charanjit Singh Channi gets accused of doing nothing for his constituency’s improvement after winning the elections. His promises fall flat and fake which he made during his election campaigns.
He had distributed sewing machines to the women of the town stating that women empowerment must be encouraged, every lady should be made self-independent and have the ability to raise their children. But in actual nothing comes in practical and not a single women employment scheme been introduced in his jurisdiction that irked the people who voted for him. It’s been more than nine years, he is serving as the MLA of Shri Chamkaur Sahib and nothing achieved by him yet for the turf. Public wants to know what he has done to facelift the standards of the area.
Several persons from his constituency namely Rupinder Singh Roopa, Gurmail Singh Bara, Sukhjit Singh, SudipVij, Manjeet Singh came forward and asked Charanjit Singh Channi through media that what he has done to eradicate spreading drug addiction among the youth of the area. They even accused Charanjit of distributing alcohol during his election campaigns.Charanjit is blamed to step up his area before six months of the elections and once he wins, he doesn’t show his face for next four years. He uses fraudulent practices to entice the vote bank. The public in the area is furious about his performance and needs his speedy response on their queries. No statement has been made by Charanjit Singh Channi addressing the issue yet. Punjab Congress is already facing tough times and this recent issue adds to their woes.
“The former Congress CM Captain Amarinder Singh, under whose command the party has lost two back-to-back elections fighting a losing battle again. Internal feud and differences with state leadership has reached to its peak under Captain’s regime.”
India’s oldest political party is now on the verge of collapse in wake of family legacy. Factionalism has further rusted the party badly. Punjab unit of Congress party is no exception either and things have gone from bad to worse since Captain Amarinder has taken over the rein of the party. There was always leadership crisis in the state unit of the congress party and pinning high hopes on Captain, Congress Vice-President might have wrested power of state with Captain but this move has misfired badly and state leaders are locking horns with captain.
Captain is fighting a losing battle
Even a soldier has no respect in the general who has led the party to a defeat. A good leader is one who can enthuse confidence in teammates keeping their morale high and someone who can motivate them work wholeheartedly for common bigger goal.
Captain Amarinder Singh surely doesn’t fir the bill in this context at Punjab unit of Congress. Popularly known as ‘maharaja sahib’, he cannot tolerate any opposing view within the party and goes to any extent satisfy his ego. Everyone is well aware how he had ensured the ouster of former Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president, Partap Singh Bajwa.
Growing resentment from party colleagues
It is noteworthy that senior Congress leaders, Bir Davinder Singh and Jagmeet Singh Brar have been axed for raising their voice against state leadership. But not only senior Congress leaders but also even the district level party workers have started openly expressing their resentment against captain. Recently in a meeting at Ludhiana, Captain was left aghast by the unruly behavior of party workers. In midst of chaos he was forced to leave the venue.
“Congress has rather taken the harsh route to take on growing factionalism and growing dissent in the Punjab unit of the party. Ahead of polls, party is not afraid to crack the whip and dissenters are getting axed one after another.”
Within a week, two senior Congress leaders have been expelled from the party for raising the voice against state leadership. While murmur against congress leadership started surfacing immediately after Captain Amarinder Singh was made the state chief, state leaders have now started openly expressing their voice of dissent against the state leadership.
Congress leaders following Captain’s footsteps
It is noteworthy that Captain Amarinder himself never missed a chance to hit a salvo at his rivals within the party. Former Chief Minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal and his successors in PPCC like Shamsher Singh Dullo and Partap Singh Bajwa, to many others have faced the burnt of his arrogance.
While Captain is now trying hard to maintain discipline within the party, he himself has been reason for indiscipline for a long with Captain locking horns with several senior leaders in public. It is a well-known epic, how Captain had waged a war against central leadership of party demanding removal of former Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) President, Captain Amarinder Singh.
Senior leaders washing dirty linen in Public
Trickle down effect that begins with Captain Amarinder at the top goes down till the party cadre level worker. India’s grand old party, which is ruled by autocratic style of functioning, arrogance has creped deep into every member of the party.
Captain, who is known to work with a coterie, had been firing salvos at majority of the senior party workers. Now some of the senior leaders have got the courage to lock horns with him and are questioning his leadership. It must be noted that senior leaders Bir Davinder and Jagmeet Brar had questioned his leadership and predicted that Congress was fighting a losing battle under Captain’s leadership. Both of them faced the burnt of autocratic style functioning of Congress and were expelled without serving a show cause notice.
“Out of power for almost a decade now, Congress party in Punjab is now leaving no stone unturned to return to power. But there is no end to woes of factionalism led party, which is on the verge of collapse being weighed down under its own conflict. Adding to conflict is the expulsion of former MP, Jagmeet singh Brar.”
Contesting his fifth elections, Punjab congress Chief, Captain Amarinder Singh has already decided to hang his boots after the assembly polls scheduled early next year. Out of desperation, Captain has engaged well-known election strategist with a hope to turn around things. But in a party, where internal feud and differences with central leadership is mounting day by day ahead of polls, even Kishor’s marketing gimmick won’t help much.
After Bir Davinder, Jagmeet Brar faces party whip
This move has come close on the heels of expulsion of Bir Davinder Singh, former deputy speakers and senior party leader. It is noteworthy here that Davinder had termed Captain as ‘Inaccessible’ and he even went on record to state that the party is fighting a losing battle under the leadership of Captain Amarinder Singh. Jagmeet Brar shared same views against Captain, former Member of Parliament from Faridkot had to pay the price for his public ourbusrt against captain.
Outrage on Twitter
Media savvy Brar had resorted to twitter to express his outrage against party leadership. Mudslinging earlier surfaced in the public domain when Jagmeet Brar had questioned the credentials of Congress legislatures. He even went on advice them to perform in Vidhan Sabha rather than pointing fingers at others.
When the loyal supporters of Captain had sought expulsion of Brar, he countered them back by asking why did they remain mum on Captain Amarinder Singh.
“Fighting his fifth elections, Punjab Congress chief, Captain Amarinder has already decided to quit politics after next elections in Punjab. Leaving no stone unturned to lave with lasting impression, he has hired well-known strategist Prashnat Kishor. While KIshor’s much hyped ‘Coffee with Captain’ failed to stimulate public imagination, it is inviting criticism from within the ranks of congress party.”
Captain Amarinder has pinned high hopes poll strategist Prashnat Kishor and is hoping that the party would be able to establish a deep connect with youth of state with the help of much-hyped ‘Coffee with Captain’ extravaganza. The well-orchestrated event held by the team of Parsahnt Kishor has managed to create a buzz on the social media but it failed to draw enthusiasm of public at large. In fact initial few events were total disaster with attendees trying to overpower each other. In mist of chaos, Prahsnt Kishor was forced to leave from one of the events.
Coffee a western phenomenon
Senior Congress leader and former Member of Parliament from Faridkot, Jagmeet Brar had went on record to question the credibility of Captain’s much-hyped extravaganza. He stated that coffee is a western phenomenon and ‘Lassi’ is the flavour of Punjab. Brar felt that mass level contact needs to be built to understand the problems faced by the masses.
“Such mega events peppered with dose of entertainment would only help in creating a hype but would serve no purpose in making lasting impression on the mind of electorate”, quips Brar on the effectiveness of ‘Coffee with Captain’.
Brar pays the price for questioning Captain
Jagmeet Brar being a senior member of Congress party questioned the effectiveness of ‘Coffee with Captain’ in good faith. But not going well Captain Amarinder Singh, Brar had to pay a huge price by getting expelled from the party membership.
Brar lambasted the PPCC President for his wrong attitude
The Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee Chief Capt Amarinder Singh expelled the senior Congress leader Bir Devinder Singh for six years from the party. However, the firebrand Congress leader and former MP, Jagmeet Brar lambasted the PPCC Chief for his wrong attitude towards party’s senior leader.
Bir Devinder was suspended from Congress party after a write up spat with Capt Amarinder. On Friday, Capt Amarinder Singh expelled him from the Congress party. They both were not in the good terms with each other.
Jagmeet Brar criticised Amarinder against the expulsion of Devinder
The senior Congress leader Jagmeet Brar has criticises the PPCC President for his attitude towards the party senior leaders. He said that Amarinder has been indulging himself in the petty politics with in the party leadership.
Brar tweeted, “Birdevinder singh’s expulsion from party not in good taste, smacks of personal vendetta and Highhandedness by Amarinder Singh.”
He said that the arrogant Capt Amarinder himself thinks about his personal gains and he is against the people who give him the feedback to improve himself. Brar stressed that the party’s high command is aware of the fact that who is right or who is wrong. But, when the entire party is struggling hard to prepare itself for the Punjab assembly polls, why Capt Amarinder Singh is acting like Ahmad Shah Abdali.
Brar challenged Amarinder to contest from Lambi assembly
The incumbent Punjab Congress head has been saying that Manpreet Badal would contest from Lambi constituency. The former MP Brar has told Amarinder to contest from the Lambi constituency rather than pitting Manpreet Badal against his uncle. Brar said, “Manpreet’s father forfeited his security deposit (in 2012 Assembly polls) and he himself lost to Harsimrat Badal in the 2014 parliamentary elections.” He further said that Amarinder is scared off from contesting from Lambi constituency so that’s why he is deliberately putting his efforts to provoke Manpreet to contest from the seat in the Punjab polls.
