A major setback for Congress in Dera Baba Nanak, Inderjit Randhawa quits the party

The senior Congress leader Inderjit Singh Randhawa quit the party on Tuesday. It’s a major setback for the party in the Dera Baba Nanak constituency. Congress gave ticket to his brother Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa from the constituency.

Inderjit was opposing his brother’s name for the ticket but the party ignored him and gave ticket to his brother. He was seeking ticket for his son Deepinder Singh Randhawa. Inderjit said that the party has ignored the loyal and sincere leaders.

Inderjit’s son, who is also Punjab Youth Congress secretary Deepinder Randhawa, along with 294 office-bearers, including Dera Baba Nanak Youth Congress chief Jatinder Kumar Gora, and district president of the National Students Union of India Gursimranjeet Singh Randhawa, also tendered their resignation.

Inderjit said that he will contest elections from the Dera Baba Nanak constituency.  He is in touch with third front parties and within a couple of days; he will make a formal announcement of joining a political oufit.

Deepinder said he had applied for a Congress ticket from Fatehgarh Churian or Dera Baba Nanak constituencies, but his application was rejected. Deepinder further said that he worked whole heartedly for the party but the party picked the wrong candidate.

The family feud of Randhawa family over the allocation of ticket will harm the party in the constituency. Deepinder has a huge fan following in the constituency. Inderjit Singh Randhawa is son of a prominent Congress leader.

The differences between Inderjit Singh and Sukhjinder Singh deepened when Sukhjinder didn’t help his nephew Deepinder in the Punjab Youth Congress elections.

Rebels in Punjab Congress to harm the party in assembly polls

The rebels in the Punjab Congress will harm the party in the upcoming assembly polls. Capt Amarinder Singh expelled the senior leader Bir Devinder Singh last year. Bir Devinder Singh worked for the party for three decades.

Bir Devinder Singh threatened the PPCC President Amarinder Singh that he will support the rivals in Patiala constituencies. He had complained about the high headedness of Amarinder Singh and his personal opinion published in English daily forced Amarinder to expel him from the party. Bir Devinder Singh was the legislator from Mohali constituency from 2002-2007.

Another rebel Jagmeet Brar also working against the Punjab Congress and joined hand with Trinamool Congress. Brar was the former Member Parliament and he also suffered because of the differences with Amarinder Singh.

Surjit Singh Barnala’s family also up in arms against the party for denying ticket to their family member from Dhuri seat and wrote to party high command in this regard. Gajender Singh Deepa, the senior Congress leader failed to get ticket from Sunam. Deepa has threatened the party to change the Sunam candidate or otherwise face bruin in the assembly elections.

The family members of senior Congress leader Gurchet Singh Bhullar are angry with the party for giving ticket to Sukhpal Singh Bhullar. Interestingly, Sukhpal is son of Gurchet and both are against each other. Gurchet was expecting ticket from Dera Baba Nanak but the party gave ticket to his son.

Inder Sekhri, younger brother of sitting Congress MLA Ashwani Sekhri told the party high command to drop his brother’s name from Batala constituency. Inder has written a letter to party high command cited the reason that his elder brother has done nothing for the constituency. Moreover, Ashwini is hand in glove with BJP leaders.

The factionalism and rebellion has increased in the party which will lead to a biggest damage to Punjab Congress in the upcoming assembly polls.
